La Luna 1996 Reserva Especiale. A limited production cigar which was sold out by the end of 2000. We recently secured a nice cache of them. They were created in 1996 with an excellent blend of 1995 Dominican, a little Nicaraguan and some Indonesian for filler. The binder is from Ecuador and the toothy wrapper is an MM1/CP1 Java Leaf. This elegant cigar is very smooth with a nice touch of spice.

It comes dangerously close to being too perfect and reserved. The minor highlights take center stage. The smooth overtones and accents are soft and distinct, yet in front, attenuated through a firm draw. The ash is symmetrical, burning slow and releasing little smoke to it's surroundings.

About $3.50 It had been in a humidor for a year. This cigar burned and drew perfectly, but it smoked a little hot, like it was too dry, but it wasn't too dry.

It was a medium to full bodied smoke and the harshness dominated the flavor. I've had about ten of them in the past and they were better than this one, though I wouldn't buy them again.
