JR Cigars:
The JR Special Corona was one of our flagship brands.
Handcrafted by Rolando Reyes, Sr., this cigar used to
sell like hotcakes in plain plastic bags - no boxes, no
bands, no nuthin' - just flavor! Regretfully, due to disputes
with the maker, we ceased production of this great cigar
in 1994. But all is well now and, with much enthusiasm,
we are once again able to offer this fantastic smoke.
Earthy, rich, full of flavor... it is like being in a
time machine! A "must try" cigar.

Notes:
I got this cigar from a friend. This stick was OK. It
was tightly constructed, and the preburn aroma was alright,
but not spectacular.
I lit it up. It started out kinda so-so but then built
up into a VERY full bodied and spicy smoke. Unfortunately,
the flavor went a little downhill about halfway down,
so I'd have to say that it was inconsistent.
It had burn problems (if anything, it burned very slow)
and required relighting. After the relight, it burned
hot and harsh. This might be a result of me screwing up
the relight, because it wasn't harsh before then.
Overall, I'd say that this cigar rates somewhere between
fair and good. MrChef makes a good point in his review
- it's not bad, but for the money, you could do much better.
JR sells these for at $14 for a 6 pack. That means that
to get 20 of them, you've gotta shell out almost $50.
I'll pass, because for that amount you can get 2 high
quality bundles of something else.
Again, the cigar's not bad at all, especially if you
like full flavored Honduran tobacco, but it's definitely
not worth what JR is asking.

Notes:
JR's house brands run the gamut. The Ultimates are some
of the best cigars around, the Alternative some of the
worse. Along the way they manage to give you everything
in between. This is one of those cigars.
This cigar first appeared, or if you go by Lew Rothman's
tale above, "reappeared" in early 2002. There
was quite a buzz about them and they were sold out for
quite sometime. Not wanting to be the odd man out I order
two packs (the come in 12's) of the #6's. One pack in
EMS and one pack in Maduro. The reason I have listed them
both on this single page is because with out the label
telling you which was which there is no way in hell that
you could tell them apart. They are both very dark, well
made very nice looking cigars. And to be honest I could
not tell a bit of difference in the taste either. They
were smooth and pleasant tasting cigars. They were a little
more than medium, but not what I would call strong. They
burned very well, and held a good solid ash. Overall these
are decent smokes. I did not find them excessively good
or bad in anyway. They could be Swiss, they are neutral.
I'd smoke them again, but I think they'd have to be on
sale for me to buy them again. They come in 12 packs,
which is annoying and reeks of a diversion to take your
mind off of the price, which was $14.00 per pack, not
a lot, but with a bundle of 20 Consuegra
#16's just 6 bucks more, what's the better deal?
