Cigars:
The most popular Cuban cigars in the world - punto. Montecristo
cigars are so popular that they account for up to 50%
of all cigar exports from Cuba. The Montecristo no 4 mareva
has even become the undisputed champion of the world -
globally there are more Montecristo no 4 cigars sold than
any other Habano. Montecristo cigars began life in the
H. Upmann factory in 1935 under the ownership of the Menéndez
and Garcia families. Instead of names the cigars were
given numbers - 1 to 5. Almost overnight Montecristo cigars
became a huge success. Only 4 years after the creation
of the Montecristo brand, the Menéndez and Garcia
families became the largest producers of cigars in Cuba.
Of course, come the Revolution...things could only go
downhill for Señors Menéndez and "Pepe"
Garcia. In 1959 Fidel Castro and the Cuban state took
over control of Cuban cigar production, including the
Montecristo brand, and forced the two families into exile
in Spain. Bitter arguments over legal rights to the brand
name followed but there was only going to be one outcome
- the creators of the brand started a new line outside
of Cuba called Montecruz. The verdict on the Montecristo
cigars of today? They are still of an excellence that
has always been there and they are still the most popular
Cuban cigar in the world.

Notes:
The first thing I noticed about this cigar was the aroma.
It has an aroma like no other cigar I have smoked and
it was beautiful. It smelled like the spanish cedar that
you smell in good humidors. I spent an hour wafting the
smoke towards my nose. The taste was great also, it was
medium strength and not overpowering like most Cubans
I have had. I also noticed that this stick was great from
the moment I lit it till I burnt my fingers trying to
make it last. Most cigars take a inch or so to get into,
not this one, it was great from the start. Like Mr. Chef,
I cannot tell you that this smoke tasted like leather
or coffee or any of that crap. It was just an excellent
smooth smoke, no bitterness at all. Perfect ash, perfect
draw. If money and the US government were not an obstacle
this would be my only smoke. I have been smoking for ten
years and this is in my top 3 cigars.

Now here
is a truly great, classic, Cuban cigar. It had a solid construction,
burned slow and even, was strong and full of flavor. This
little smoke can be deceiving unless you're familiar with
it. It is a total powerhouse yet it's not "out of control"
I've smoked quite a few of these babies, in fact this was
the first Cuban cigar I ever smoked. I like to say that
the Bolivar Royal Coronas
is my favorite Cuban cigar, but every time I smoke one of
these, I always find myself second guessing that statement.
If you've not smoked one of these do yourself a favor and
get one. Not only is this a great smoke it's really affordable.
