Cigars:
The most popular Cuban cigars in the world - punto. Montecristo
cigars are so popular that they account for up to 50%
of all cigar exports from Cuba. The Montecristo no 4 mareva
has even become the undisputed champion of the world -
globally there are more Montecristo no 4 cigars sold than
any other Habano. Montecristo cigars began life in the
H. Upmann factory in 1935 under the ownership of the Menéndez
and Garcia families. Instead of names the cigars were
given numbers - 1 to 5. Almost overnight Montecristo cigars
became a huge success. Only 4 years after the creation
of the Montecristo brand, the Menéndez and Garcia
families became the largest producers of cigars in Cuba.
Of course, come the Revolution...things could only go
downhill for Señors Menéndez and "Pepe"
Garcia. In 1959 Fidel Castro and the Cuban state took
over control of Cuban cigar production, including the
Montecristo brand, and forced the two families into exile
in Spain. Bitter arguments over legal rights to the brand
name followed but there was only going to be one outcome
- the creators of the brand started a new line outside
of Cuba called Montecruz. The verdict on the Montecristo
cigars of today? They are still of an excellence that
has always been there and they are still the most popular
Cuban cigar in the world.

Notes:
What can I really say about the cigar that has been rated
one of the best in the world for nearly ten years. This
is not only a classic Cuban, it's quite simply a classic
cigar. The Monte #2 is everything that a cigar should
be. It's rich, and strong yet smooth and mellow. It burns
long and slow, with an easy draw that gives up tons of
smoke. The flavor is dirt and leather. Smoking a Monte
#2 is pure cigar satisfaction. The Dominicans are not
bad either, but don't confuse the two.
