For the people of La Republica Socialista de Cuba only
two things are carved in stone: "la muerte"
and the excellence of their Cohibas. And whilst El Conde
de Montecristo may rule the world in numbers of cigars
sold, El Presidente de Cuba is, without a doubt, Señor
Cohiba. Unlike the majority of the Habanos brands that
owe their origins to Spanish emigrantes of the 1800s,
Cohiba cigars were born and bred in Cuba. It is no exaggeration
to say that Cohiba is a child of the revolution since
the original models were made under the insignia of Ernesto
"Che" Guevara when he was Minister for Industry
in the 1960s. El Che, a qualified doctor of Argentine
extraction, considered the cigar "un compañero
indispensable de los revolucionarios".
For 20 years Cohiba cigars were reserved for in-house
use within the Cuban government and as gifts for foreign
diplomats. In 1982 Cohiba cigars went on general sale
to the public and in that short space of time the brand
has established itself as the flagship of Habanos S.A.
Though never the cheapest, Cohiba cigars are an eternal
reminder that you get what you pay for. Probably the worlds
most counterfeited cigars are the Cohiba Esplendidos,
boxes of which are available in the back streets of Habana
for $25...and no, despite whatever story you may want
to tell us, Cohiba have never made a glass-topped humidor
full of Esplendidos cigars - fake, fake ,fake - as fake
as the day is long. Lo siento hombre, pero...
Punch takes its name from the puppet character that was
popular in 1840 when Manuel Lopez first introduced the
brand. Even today, the image of Punch adorns the boxes.
The cigars are made in the Miguel Fernandez Roig factory
in Havana and offer a range of sizes, most full flavored.

Notes:
My first true love the Cohiba.
I am trying to be objective
and I don't think that I am
caught in the hype of the Cohiba
name; I simply like the taste
of Cohiba better than any other
cigar to date. I even like the
Dominican Cohiba's better than
any other brand.
My entire goal in smoking another
cigar other than Cohiba is to
see if I can discover one that
tastes like a Cohiba. The Cohiba
is a wicked expensive Cigar
here in Canada with the Robusto
costing $39.17cdn.
With all the cigars that I
have smoked to date nothing
compares to a Cohiba.
The Robusto burned well producing
a grayish white ash. The coal
was a noticeable cone shape.
Draw is just right producing
ample smoke.
The taste is distinctly Cohiba
and on the upper scale of medium.
Tastes of Cuban dirt in every
puff with a very slight sweet
undertone.
These are my ultimate all time
favorites and forever will be.
I rate the Cohiba 9 out of 10
reserving a score of 10 for
that yet to be discovered magical
smoke that may some day make
it self known to me.

Notes:
Another fine Cuban cigar worthy of the Cohiba name, not
like the Dominican knockoff most of us Americans are forced
to smoke.
It came in a cedar box with four other robustos: a Montecristo,
Romeo, Hoyo and Partagas a special presentation made in
June of 2003. A full flavored smoke that quite frankly
I smoked to the nub it never got hot and like a drug was
very hard to let go of.
It’s a very satisfying smoke. Earthy, woody, nutty
long hard black ash.
